Few ski resorts will have enough difficult ski runs to keep most advanced happy all week long, what gets an advanced skiers juices flowing are long runs, preferably steep black, long runs. Ski resorts such as Chamonix with extensive off piste skiing, or Val d’Isere with some of the best lift served off piste skiing are natural choices for advanced skiers, but these are well publicised and after fresh snow the best steep runs get crowed with advanced skiers.

In Switzerland, high on most advanced skiers ‘to do’ list will be Verbier or Zermatt, both have some seriously steep runs and perfect off piste terrain. In Italy the skiing around the Monterosa ski area is fun, Champoluc and Gressoney in particular are worth a visit.
Austria’s big names for advanced skiing are St Anton, St Christoph and Lech which are all on the same ski pass and the off piste skiing is first class.
Further afield in North America, Canada’s Whistler is ideal or in the USA, Jackson Hole, home to the world’s scariest ski run or Colorado’s Beaver Creek are good choices.
