First built in 1960, the Kandahar Hotel has always been the preferred destination for ski, nature and lovers of gourmet cuisine. At the heart of the village and a few steps away from the Bellevarde and Solaise mountains, the Kandahar is ideally located to fully live the « Val d'Isère Experience ».
From decoration to services, nothing is left to chance to offer each resident a unique holiday. Completely renovated in 1994, expanded in 2001 and 2014, the Kandahar Hotel is always improving. Throughout the years, the Kandahar has always kept one goal in mind: the well being and the satisfaction of its guests.
To perpetuate the traditions of Savoy’s architecture, wood and stone were utilized as a dominant feature. Refined and elegant without excess, offering modern comfort while maintaining mountain style, the Kandahar is the promise of a restful and relaxing holiday.
Ideally located in the centre of Val d'Isère, the Kandahar proposes lively and gastronomic evenings in its restaurant the Taverne d’Alsace, as well as relaxing moments at the bar, sauna or steam room.
The Kandahar is ideally located in the centre of our village to enjoy the activities and treasures of Val d'Isère. It is only a few steps away from the Bellevarde and Solaise ski slopes.
Our 46 rooms and suites with balcony display a simple yet refined mountain style, with the comfort provided by carved wooden furniture and soft fabrics.
Sit back and relax in our Bar & Lounge area. Take time to read a book or enjoy the moment with your friends and family while sipping a drink by the fireplace. A playroom is also available for the children.
BreakfastOur generous breakfast buffet is served from 7.30 to 10 AM. A wide choice of delicious options to prepare you for a long day on the slopes include hot drinks, juices, fresh fruits, yoghurts, bread and pastries from the bakery, cereals, cheeses, cold cuts…etc
You will be charmed by the cosy and warm atmosphere of our lounge area. Sofas and couches are an invitation for relaxation while offering the opportunity to share your adventures of the day to your companions.
The playroom offers various games and dolls, toys for boys and girls. There is an available tv with cartoons to keep them occupied quietly.
For meetings and seminars, the Hotel Kandahar has a private room with a capacity of around 15 people. Our hotel offers an ideal environment for positive thinking, a perfect place to strengthen the cohesion of a group. Make a deep impression with a working day in an original surrounding.
After a long day in the snow, gather around the fireplace and share a hot drink with friends and family. Before a night out or just to wind down, enjoy one of our cocktails or a bottle of wine from our wide selection.

Just like the Kandahar, the Taverne d’Alsace welcomes you in a very convivial and relaxed atmosphere. French classics meet Alsacian and regional dishes to please every palate. No less eclectic and varied, our wine list offers treasures from all regions of France. Take a seat around one of our wooden tables and enjoy a typical apéritif from Alsace. Snack on a crispy « Tarte Flambée » while sipping on a cool white wine such as flowery Muscat, a spicy Gewurztraminer or a sparkling Crémant. Then, choose a dish from one of our alsacian classics or choose one of our specials like the surprising “Hot&Cold Filet of Beef” or the creamy “Scallops Risotto”.
The comfort of wood, the authenticity of our cooking and the quality of our friendly service will join together to provide a memorable dining experience.
At the head of our kitchen for over 25 years, Michel Wehrung acquired his skills in Strasbourg. His love for his native Alsace is evident in our Menu: Tarte Flambée, Salade Strasbourgeoise, Alsacian style Snails, Choucroute Royale, Home-Made Meatloaf or Baeckeoffe…
Throughout the years, he has also shown a constant desire to bring new tastes to the Taverne’s table.
Regular use of the sauna provides great benefits: it calms you down, relieves stress and eliminates the tensions of an active day. The sauna relaxes, removes fatigue, soothes and restores energy levels.
Of oriental heritage, the hammam is simply a 50 ° C hot steam bath. The high temperature and wet environment heal sore and aching muscles while promoting sound sleep. Additionally, it softens the skin cells while facilitating the elimination of dead skin cells: exfoliation is recommended at the end of the session.
