Why Ski in Niederau?
The ski resort of Niederau is a small village in Wildschonau. This stunning tree lined mountain is one of the prettiest in the Tryol Valley. The main lift to Markbachjoch is a gondola taking you to 1500m, from here there are some stunning views and some good runs back down. There is a good selection of bars, restaurants and shops which are situated by the gondola station. There is a good bus service which will take you across to Auffach, the next village along, where you can try out some more pistes. Niederau also has a chair lift a few minutes walk away which will take you to Lanerkopfl which has some good black runs for the advance skiers.

Beginners skiing in Niederau
Beginners in Niederau have a choice of areas, for complete beginners you can start at the bottom to gain confidence and once you feel a little braver you can try the nursery area further up the mountain where the easy blue runs are.
Intermediates skiing in Niederau
For the intermediate skiers in Niederau the Schatzberg ski area from Auffach has a lot more red runs. The few red and blue runs above Niederau are very good but they will be done in a few hours. These ski areas are best suited to intermediates that want to enjoy their holiday at an easy pace.
Advanced skiing in Niederau
There are several black runs in Niederau but they are all quite short and not too challenging. The off piste in the area however is great, if you head over to Schatzberg you can find some areas which will be great for advanced skiers.
Snowboading Niederau
The snowboarding in Niederau is best suited to intermediates. The drag lifts tend to put the beginners off a little. They are hard to avoid if you’re not experienced enough. Auffach has a half pipe and a snowboard park for the free stylers.

The Après Niederau is very relaxed and has a causal feel to it. There is something for everyone here. It has the nice quiet bars and restaurants for families and then the slightly more lively bars for those who want to make an evening out of it. The disco and cave bar is a popular place for the young party people as it goes on till late.

There is plenty for the non skiers in Niederau. There is bowling and tobogganing, or you can go on a moonlight sleigh ride.
