Ski Olympic: Farewell to a Ski Holiday Favourite

We say farewell to a ski holiday favourite as Ski Olympic closes after 38 memorable years.

When I founded Ski Line 30 years ago, I was still finding my feet in the ski holiday industry. At the time, we worked with just three chalet specialists and one of the very first was Ski Olympic. In fact, there’s a good chance we were the first agent they partnered with too.

Back in 1995, Ski Olympic was a proudly family-run company, headed by Bernie and his wife Maggie, and supported by their two sons, Gavin and Jarrod. The company quickly earned a reputation for offering high-quality, catered chalet holidays across some of the best resorts in the French Alps, including Val d’Isère, Tignes, La Rosière, Reberty 2000, La Plagne, and Les Arcs.

Ski Olympic was a success story, delivering unforgettable ski holidays to thousands of British guests each season. However, following the UK’s decision to leave the EU, things became much more complicated and costly for British tour operators employing staff in Europe. Like many chalet specialists, Ski Olympic had to adapt. They scaled back their operations and focused solely on their family-owned chalet hotel, Chalet Hotel La Forêt, in Les Arcs, near the cable car link to La Plagne. In its final chapter, the business was run with care by Jarrod.

Today, Jarrod contacted his network of agents with the news that Ski Olympic is officially closing after 38 incredible years. In his message, he wrote:

“After 38 years of sending guests to the French Alps, we have finally decided to close the doors of Ski Olympic and put our feet up. I have to mention that we’ve had many years of agent dealings, and I can honestly say that 99.9% of the time it’s been absolutely brilliant (I hope you feel the same). I feel we’ve got to know many of you long-standing agents not just professionally, but personally too over the years, which leaves lovely memories for us.”

We do feel the same, Jarrod. Over the past three decades, working with Ski Olympic has been a true pleasure. The holidays you provided to our clients were consistently excellent, and we always appreciated the friendly, down-to-earth way your team did business.

As for Chalet Hotel La Forêt, it remains a wonderful asset. We don’t yet know what the future holds for it, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it return under the banner of another operator soon, and we certainly hope it does.
