Hundreds Evacuated After Hotel Fire in La Plagne

Hundreds evacuated after hotel fire in La Plagne, many British skiers are among those affected.

More than 480 skiers and staff, including British holidaymakers, were forced to flee a hotel in the French ski resort of La Plagne in the early hours of Monday after a large fire broke out.

The blaze erupted at around 2:45am at the Hotel Club MMV Aime 2000, prompting a major emergency response. Over 90 firefighters and multiple fire engines attended the scene to bring the situation under control.

Four individuals were injured and have been taken to hospital in nearby Bourg Saint Maurice, according to reports from local media.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic and distressing scenes as guests evacuated the building wearing only nightclothes. Local resident Jennifer Tsang, who is assisting with rescue efforts, said:

“They had to run to the sports centre in their bare feet. When I arrived at about 6am, there were people just in shorts and tops, no coats, nothing.”

Social media has been flooded with messages of support, along with reports that some guests have lost all their belongings, including clothing and ski equipment.

Local residents and businesses have rallied to support those affected. Appeals have gone out on social media requesting donations of warm clothing, toiletries, medication, and phone chargers. Ski Line put out a request on our social media channels early this morning with a request for skiers not affected by the fire to share warm clothing with those who had to rush to safety.

Jennifer Tsang, who runs the local tour company ‘That’s La Plagne’, said the community response has been heartwarming:

“Everyone has been brilliant. Locals, seasonnaires, and tour operator reps are all working together to help. Crystal Ski reps have even gone down to the valley to buy essentials for guests. Other tour operators are offering their empty chalets and apartments to house evacuees.”

Affected guests can find further support and up-to-date information via the La Plagne Fans 2024/25 Facebook page, where locals continue to coordinate relief efforts.
