Val d’Isere has a good choice of dining both on and off the slopes, here is our guide to some of our favourite places to dine either on your ski chalets staff night off or for a jolly good lunch while on the mountain.
Our recommended on-slope restaurants in the Val d’Isere
Edelweiss (Le Fornet)
The lovely wood and stone Edelweiss is located above La Fornet, it’s a great choice for a special lunch, particularly if it’s a sunny day when the terrace is just perfect. We’ve enjoyed some great lunches here, we especially recommend the Lamb and duck dishes.

Fruitière (Top of La Daille gondola)
Decorated as an old milk dairy the food and service here are exceptional. Try the beef or lamb which our team have enjoyed here. The restaurant has a sunny terrace which when the sun is shining is a very popular venue and early booking is recommended. The same owner as the legendary Folie Douce après ski bar which is next door to the La Fruitière, which becomes very busy on sunny afternoons from about 3:30pm.

Trifollet (halfway down the OK piste above La Daille)
A great choice for a value lunch. The Plat du jour is always a good choice; bookings are not normally required.
Bar de L’Ouillette (base of Madeleine run of Solaise
Located at the foot of the Madeleine run opposite a lake, that for most of the winter remains frozen. This is several of our team’s favourite restaurants on a sunny day, when we ski together in Val d’Isere it is always near the top of our list for a lunchtime meet-up. Great salads on a sunny day and BBQ food cooked to order. Watch out for the deserts. Expect chill-out music and a younger crowd.
Booking is suggested for groups or over peak times, particularly when the sun is out.

Our Recommended Restaurants in the village of Val d’Isere
We could have a list of the best restaurants without including Arolay at La Fornet, head chef Altelier d’Edmond has two Michelin stars. Located by the La Fornet cable car station, the restaurant is decorated in the style of a carpenter’s workshop, now also doing a value lunch menu with €25 which for a restaurant of this standard seems exceptional value, although we have yet to try it!
La Table de l’Ours in the 5* Hotel Barmes de l’Ours hotel
La Table de l’Ours is the second of Val d’Isere to hold one Michelin star, so should be on the list, it’s a grand French cuisine with a price tag to match.
