What’s New This Season

With the new winter season fast approaching you will be eager to discover what improvements have been made during the summer in your favourite places to ski and snowboard.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll give you details of new attractions, lifts, and runs you’ll find in resorts, plus details of any new and existing special events you may want to attend during your trips to the mountains.

Austrian Tirol

The Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn has made a significant upgrade ahead of the 2024/25 winter season. In Fieberbrunn, a new, faster lift now connects the base to the summit of Lärchfilzkogel without the need to change cable cars. Plus, the new NORD 10-person cable car will make navigating the vast resort even easier. A bridge has been constructed over the main road in the resort to make access to both lifts easier.

The Zillertal Arena has a new Teufeltal eight-person chairlift which connects Zell am Ziller to Gerlos. Skiers and snowboarders can sit in comfort on the heated seats, and pull-down bubbles will help them keep warm and dry. A six-person Duxer X-Press has replaced the old four-person Duxeralmbahn.

SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental has a trio of eco-friendly upgrades. Scheffau has an 8-CLD/B Eibergbahn cable car and solar power energy provides 50% of its electricity. At Brixen im Thale, a new viewing platform offers 360° panoramic views at the top of the Zinsbergbahn cable car. Söll has built a small-scale hydroelectric plant which will generate 25% of the energy needed to run its lifts.

The Three Valleys

A new gondola has replaced the ‘Les 2 Lacs’ chairlift in Val Thorens. It has 61 cabins with 10 seats in each enabling it to transport 3,500 skiers and snowboarders per hour. It provides ski-in/ski-out access to ‘Grand Fond’ between the ‘La Bee’ zip line and the ‘Moutière’ chairlift. A specifically designed boarding gate has been installed for beginners and children.

The Caron 3200 complex is a new ultra-modern development at 10,500 feet, the highest point in Val Thorens. The complex includes a new restaurant, wine bar, observation terrace with a snack bar, and an 860 square feet multi-use space for events and exhibitions. It offers 360° views.

Its lifts are scheduled to start for the weekend of 26th October. Courmayeur, La Thuile and Pila will follow in November, and Monterosa in December. The season will then continue until 4th May 2025.

Skiers and snowboarders can register to test all the latest equipment on the slopes for free and take part in a whole range of events and contests.

All the latest ski and snowboard trends will be on show in the huge test village and the weekend will feature live music plus plenty of dancing in your ski and snowboard gear.

St Moritz

And now for something completely different. Instead of ski and snowboard gear, cricket legends from all over the world will be donning their whites and pads to compete in the annual matches played on the frozen lake in St Moritz.

The 2025 cricket festival takes place on 7th February and attracts big crowds. Spectators can also enjoy a variety of culinary delights on offer.
