Who really has the best ski holiday deals?

If you are a skier who uses social media, you couldn’t have missed the marketing from Heidi, a relatively new player in the UK ski holiday business, with a huge marketing budget.

But how competitive are Heidis prices? It turns out this weekend, Ski Line are 43.93% Cheaper than Heidi.

We compared the cheapest deal on our website with the cheapest deal on Heidis website.

To be fair, we searched both websites for 2 people, departing from Gatwick, and we looked at deals departing on both Saturdays and Sundays. We only searched for ski resorts in France as it’s the most popular destination for British skiers.

Heidis cheapest deal leaving this weekend (25th Feb 24) was a 2* room only hotel (which means there is no food included), in Chatel for £790pp. Unfortunately, at just 1,200m the snow probably won’t be great for skiing.

Ski Line’s best deal on the same weekend was £499pp in a fully catered ski chalet in La Rosiere, which at 1,800m is probably going to deliver a much better skiing experience.

I love Heidis ads visually, but is their marketing message really offering skiers good advice?

Heidi claims to have new ideas about how to save money and save time when booking ski holidays.

One video that popped up in my Facebook feed suggested 3 ways to save money.

Heidi says “Go on a mid-week ski holiday”

Ski Line says ”That’s an extra day of your annual leave you will need to use up and not a good idea if you want to join a ski class, as you will end up booking a more expensive private ski lesson”.

Heidi says “Go skiing for less than a week“

Ski Line says “Most of our clients only go on one ski holiday a year, they want more time on the slopes not less”

Heidi says “Ski in a cheaper ski resort”

Ski Line says “Ski in a ski resort with good snow, cheaper ski resorts are cheaper for good reason, normally that they have slow lifts or a low altitude.”

The problem that faces skiline.co.uk, Heidi and all ski companies is that you can’t build an airport at the top of a mountain. In France, most of the best ski resorts are a 3-hour transfer from the airports. That’s where a package holiday still wins because our tour operator partners can arrange 50-seater coaches door to door and the economies of scale kick in.

With just 2 or even 4 skiers, the cost of a private taxi transfer is eyewatering, the taxi driver wants to be paid for his return journey too. With waiting time, a taxi driver can do one journey a day.

This is why the traditional ski package holiday has always offered the best value.
