Hotel Plan Owners Announce The Business Is For Sale

Hotelplan is one of our biggest and most important partners and has been for many years. We were excited to learn today that their Swiss Supermarket owners (Migros) have announced they are putting the whole travel arm of the business up for sale.

We never quite got the connection between a supermarket and a travel business, and we feel the brilliant and trusted travel brands that make up Hotel Plan will thrive under new owners and perhaps new investment will add to the business.

The likelihood is that the brands will be sold off separately. Santa business will appeal to any tour operator and is likely to have a lot of interest from the VC investors and trade buyers.

Apart from the ski brands of Inghams, Ski Total, Ski Esprit and Santas Lapland, Hotel Plan also own the adventure travel specialist, Explore and Inntravel, which offers walking and cycling holidays.

Hotel Plan was Founded in 1935 with the mission to support the Swiss hotel industry and enable affordable holidays.

Migros stated that Hotelplan Group achieved record results in 2022 and 2023 and that it sees even greater development opportunities for the company under new ownership. Allowing Migros to align with its strategy to focus on retail, financial services, and healthcare.
