New Gondolas In Italy’s Kronplatz

Kronplatz ski area in Italy’s Dolomiti Superski region has emerged as a remarkable success story in the 21st century, distinguishing itself as one of the few ski areas worldwide with a minimum of 15 gondola lifts.

Impressively, out of Kronplatz’s total lift count, 20 lifts (equating to approximately two-thirds) are gondolas. Such outstanding achievement has prompted the ski area to upgrade its gondola lifts, even those constructed in the current century, to larger and faster models.

In preparation for the winter 2023/2024 ski holiday season, two notable upgrades are currently in progress: the installation of the new Kronplatz I and Kronplatz II gondolas. These modern gondolas feature cabins that can accommodate 10 passengers each and operate at a speed of 6 meters per second. With this upgrade, the uplift capacity will reach an impressive 3,000 people per hour, replacing the older gondolas with the same names, which were equipped with cabins for a mere eight passengers and were constructed two decades ago.

The Kronplatz I and Kronplatz II gondolas ascend approximately 1,300 vertical meters over a combined ascent of around four kilometres. Despite similar ascent times compared to the previous lifts, the increased cabin size will result in a one-third boost in uplift capacity along the route. This development further solidifies Kronplatz’s status as a remarkable ski area within the Dolomiti Superski region and the wider ski industry.
